With attorneys and strategic partners across three Louisiana offices, a highly skilled and well-organized support staff, and a leading-edge legal research and information management system, BSW is one of the largest law firms in Louisiana and among the larger firms in the South. Every client, from Fortune 500 companies to one-person startups, gets our best. And we maintain the highest peer rating, given by Martindale-Hubbell.

Join our team and you'll work with some of the most respected, knowledgeable attorneys in their practice specialties. We employ a team approach to service each of our practice areas, and we strive to become trusted partners with each of our clients, from one-person start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.

But our penchant for involvement doesn't end after work.

Year after year, our firm roster reads like a “Who's Who?” of community and business organization presidents, directors, and officers. Lending their leadership skills to such diverse interests as the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the Council for a Better Louisiana, the Louisiana Committee of 100 Black Men, and the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation, our attorneys have also served as appointed and elected government officials, as well as officers and directors in the American, Louisiana, and Baton Rouge Bar Associations.

The firm is equally committed to balancing the professional and personal lives of each of our lawyers. That’s why we seek associates with superior academic credentials and diverse personal backgrounds - women and men who are interested in achieving professional and personal success. We want those who are adept at providing innovative, effective, and timely legal counsel to clients, while also attending to the well being of their families, communities and the legal profession.

Compensation and Benefits

Our compensation and benefits are among the highest for the legal communities in which we practice. Associate benefit include life, medical, dental, and disability insurance; a 401 (k) tax-deferred savings plan; and reimbursement of bar examination fees, bar review course fees, certain bar association membership fees, and the cost of attendance at continuing legal education programs. We also provide training in legal writing and presentation skills, as well as internal/external continuing education and regular firm/departmental lunches and discussion forums.

Invaluable Experience Starts Here

There’s no substitute for hands-on experience - especially in a firm as complex and diverse as Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson. Every year, we recruit standout first- and second-year law students to join our Summer Associates Program, and we interview seniors interested in becoming full-time associates with the firm upon graduation. Join us and see for yourself why the BSW experience is as intense and rewarding as you're likely to find.

Diversity Fellowship Program

Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson (BSW) has an ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. In furtherance of that commitment, BSW has created a 2L Diversity Fellowship Program. The goal of the program is to allow BSW to foster a new generation of diverse lawyers who will enhance the diversity of our legal community. The program will allow second-year law students an opportunity to spend the Fall semester as a Law Clerk in the Baton Rouge office of BSW and the Spring semester working in-house with a firm client—Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOL).

FMOL is a leading health care innovator in Louisiana and Mississippi. As a nonprofit, mission-focused Catholic healthcare ministry, FMOL has given special attention to citizens who are most in need. FMOL carries out its mission by striving for equity and fairness in all relationships, as it has committed to providing care to the needy without seeking reimbursement—including those who are vulnerable due to lack of insurance coverage, citizenship status, health status, age, education level, and other factors that compromise their ability to obtain quality healthcare services.

Successful completion of the fellowship program leads to the potential for full-time employment with BSW or FMOL after graduation.

Eligibility:

  • Second-year law student in good standing with an accredited law school

  • Approximately 12-15 hour of work per week is required

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, work experience, and community involvement

  • Member of a diverse community that historically has been underrepresented in the legal profession

  • Have a strong interest in joining BSW or FMOL as a full-time attorney after law school graduation

How to Apply:

  • Submit a cover letter

  • Submit a current resume

  • Submit current law school transcript

  • Submit a letter of recommendation from two professional or academic references

  • Participate in an interview

  • Submit a statement (no longer than 1,000 words) providing: a description of your background, personal attributes, and how same has worked to facilitate and encourage diversity, inclusion and equity. The statement should also answer the following question: From your perspective, what can law firms do to better recruit and retain people who have been historically underrepresented in law firms (people of color, women, people who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or people who live with disabilities)?

Applications can be submitted at: https://www.bswllp.com/fellowship

Summer Associates Program

Offered to first and second year law students, our Summer Program is comprised of two six-week sessions. Because many of the Firm’s new associates are graduates of our Summer Program, these programs are designed to introduce summer clerks to the various aspects of the practice of law. Students participate in case law analysis and technical writing tasks, as well as in strategy sessions, depositions and hearings. Each student is assigned two attorneys to act as mentors to provide guidance, assistance and feedback throughout their summer session. Under the close supervision of partners and senior associates, summer clerks receive a well-balanced workload, which is intended to reflect what they will experience as first year associates in the firm. Clerks are also invited to attend various social events and luncheons allowing them to become acquainted with attorneys in the firm.
