Diversity Fellowship Program

Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson, L.L.P. (Breazeale) has an ongoing commitment to building a diverse team of attorneys who bring a wide range of knowledge and perspectives to our firm so that we can better serve our clients and the community. In furtherance of that commitment, we are proud to offer law students a unique opportunity to develop their legal skills through the Breazeale Bridge Fellowship. The Fellowship is designed for 2L students who are members of communities that have been historically underrepresented in the legal profession, e.g., racial/ethnic minorities, individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, and individuals living with disabilities. At Breazeale, we recognize the critical role law firms have in fostering a new generation of attorneys who will enhance the diversity and inclusivity of the legal profession. Our goal is to equip Breazeale Bridge Fellows with tools to become successful full-time attorneys by supplementing the academic semester with hands-on experience. The Fellowship gives 2L students an opportunity to spend the Fall semester as a Law Clerk in the Baton Rouge office of Breazeale and the Spring semester working in-house with a firm client—Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOL).

FMOL is a leading health care innovator in Louisiana and Mississippi. As a nonprofit, mission-focused Catholic healthcare ministry, FMOL has given special attention to citizens who are most in need. FMOL carries out its mission by striving for equity and fairness in all relationships, as it has committed to providing care to the needy without seeking reimbursement—including those who are vulnerable due to lack of insurance coverage, citizenship status, health status, age, education level, and other factors that compromise their ability to obtain quality healthcare services.

Successful completion of the fellowship program leads to the potential for full-time employment with Breazeale or FMOL after graduation.

Summer Associates Program

Offered to first and second year law students, our Summer Program is comprised of two six-week sessions. Because many of the Firm’s new associates are graduates of our Summer Program, these programs are designed to introduce summer clerks to the various aspects of the practice of law. Students participate in case law analysis and technical writing tasks, as well as in strategy sessions, depositions and hearings. Each student is assigned two attorneys to act as mentors to provide guidance, assistance and feedback throughout their summer session. Under the close supervision of partners and senior associates, summer clerks receive a well-balanced workload, which is intended to reflect what they will experience as first year associates in the firm. Clerks are also invited to attend various social events and luncheons allowing them to become acquainted with attorneys in the firm.
