David Peterson serves as of counsel in the firm's Baton Rouge office. He brings more than 30 years of experience advising governmental entities, agencies, boards, and public bodies on complex administrative, environmental, natural resources, and regulatory matters. His practice focuses on representing clients in administrative proceedings before Louisiana licensing and regulatory boards, as well as advising on environmental, natural resources, and governmental regulatory issues.
Before joining the firm, David served as Section Chief of the Land & Natural Resources/Environmental Section of the Louisiana Department of Justice, where he directed litigation, regulatory, and agency counsel matters involving land, oil and gas, wildlife, environmental, and constitutional law. He also served as General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel for the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, providing strategic legal guidance on coastal protection and restoration initiatives, major public infrastructure projects, complex litigation, legislative matters, and state-federal agreements.
Drawing on decades of experience in both government and private practice and background in geology and geography, David provides clients with practical insight into Louisiana's regulatory and administrative processes and a deep understanding of the legal and policy issues affecting regulated industries and public entities.
